How long is a life sentence in Israel?
Israel is one of the few countries that allows this. As a matter of tradition, the President reduces most life sentences to a determinate sentence, usually within the range of 20-30 years, with parole eligibility after two-thirds of that sentence is served.
Consecutive Life Sentences
In the United States, people serving a life sentence are eligible for parole after 25 years. If they are serving two consecutive life sentences, it means they have to wait at least 50 years to be considered for parole.

25 years to life tends to mean a prison sentence. The convict is sentenced to live their life in prison for 25 years or possibly to the end of their life.
(Article 50) Life imprisonment may be commuted, and the actual sentence shall not be less than 13 years. If the death penalty with a suspension of execution is converted to life imprisonment, the actual execution shall not be less than 25 years (Article 78).
A life sentence (無期懲役, muki chōeki) is one of the most severe punishments available in Japan, second only to the death penalty. The punishment is of indefinite length and may last for the remainder of the person's life.
Where mercy is granted in relation to a person serving life imprisonment, imprisonment thereof must not be less than 30 years. In Ukraine, life imprisonment means for the rest of one's life with the only possibilities for release being a terminal illness or a Presidential pardon.
How Long Is a Life Sentence? In some jurisdictions, a "life" sentence is a misnomer in that it can come with the possibility of parole. Depending on the state's law, a defendant may be eligible for parole after a set number of years, like 20, 25, or 40.

The answer is no. Once a person is in prison, that is it. There is no way to get out except by expiration of sentence, or by death.
Except in a handful of cases (fewer than 1%), a life sentence does not automatically mean that the convicted person must be imprisoned for the rest of his or her life. Instead,it means they must be imprisoned for an indeterminate period. If they are later released on parole, their freedom is always conditional.
In judicial practice, back-to-back life sentences are two or more consecutive life sentences given to a felon. This penalty is typically used to minimize the chance of the felon being released from prison. This is a common punishment for a defendant convicted of multiple murder in the United States.
Life imprisonment without parole, in particular, raises issues of cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment, and undermines the right to human dignity by removing any hope of release and rendering the rehabilitative purpose of imprisonment essentially meaningless.
What is a life sentence in Africa?
Life imprisonment in South Africa has an indeterminate length and may last for the remainder of the offender's life. It is a mandatory punishment for premeditated murder, gang rape, serial rape including rape where the rapist knew they were HIV positive or if the victim was under 16 and/or mentally disabled.
Lifers have served anywhere from 10 years to their entire lives in prison, depending on the decision of the Committee for the Prerogative of Mercy. Convictions for murder, manslaughter, armed robbery and rape can attract life sentences.
But “life” in Kenya is assumed to be until the person dies. Very few are released before then. Unlike other prisoners, “lifers” have no chance of being released early if they work hard and behave well in prison — other prisoners may get up to half their sentences remitted on this basis.
Section 57 of the Penal Code is exercised in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh for same purpose. But the life imprisonment is meant here in India is 20 years, in Pakistan is 25 years and in Bangladesh is 30 years.

How long is a life sentence in Michigan?
First-degree lifers can never leave prison unless the governor commutes their sentence. Parolable lifers can be released by the parole board after serving the number of years set by statute. Parolable lifers sentenced in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s became eligible for parole after serving 10 years.

A life sentence in Egypt is capped at 25 years' imprisonment.
In Germany, life imprisonment (lebenslange Freiheitsstrafe) has an indeterminate length and is the most severe punishment that can be imposed. A person sentenced to life imprisonment may normally apply for parole after having served 15 years.

The Supreme Court of India defined life imprisonment as confinement for the balance of the convict's natural life in the case of Bhagirath and Ors v. Delhi Administration (1985). If a person is sentenced to life in prison, he must serve a minimum of 14 years there and a maximum of their entire life.
