What ethnicity is haplogroup R1b?
Haplogroup R1b: “It is the most frequently occurring paternal lineage in Western Europe, as well as some parts of Russia (e.g. the Bashkir minority) and Central Africa (e.g. Chad and Cameroon).
They share mtDNA haplogroup J1c2c. Richard III, last king of the House of York and last of the House of Plantagenet, was YDNA G-P287, in contrast to the Y haplotypes of the putative modern relatives.
R1b is the most numerous branch in Western Europe today, with as many as 3 out of 5 males being a member of its prolific subbranch R-M269. Another well-recognized hotspot is also found east of the Baltic Sea, and then scattered low frequency in other far-flung areas in Asia and Africa.
Interpreting the test results
The test requires comparing the 12 marker results of one individual to the 12 markers of another individual with the same surname. If the result matches 12/12, there is a 99% probability that the two are related within the time-frame indicated in the MRCA tables. Y DNA test results.
The most commonly observed haplogroup is L2a (19.8%), followed by L1b (10.2%).
Haplogroup R1b (R-M343) is the most frequently occurring Y-chromosome haplogroup in Western Europe and the most common haplogroup in the genetic genealogy databases. R1b1a2 (R-M269) is the dominant branch of R1b in Western Europe.
Many Italians, especially in Northern Italy and Central Italy, belong to Haplogroup R1b, common in Western and Central Europe.
All Indigenous American mtDNA can be traced back to five haplogroups, A, B, C, D and X. More specifically, Indigenous American mtDNA belongs to sub-haplogroups A2, B2, C1b, C1c, C1d, D1, and X2a (with minor groups C4c, D2a, and D4h3a).
The company analysed the mitochondrial DNA of two cousins of Princess Diana and then compared them to global samples. The company found that the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) belonged to a rare haplogroup, R3ob, that is usually found in the Indian population.
Only a few companies have Y-DNA tests available. FamilyTreeDNA is a good starting place for testing, and offers the largest database of matches. FamilyTreeDNA offers both STR tests (Y-37 and Y-111), along with Big Y-700, their SNP-based test.
How accurate are YDNA tests?
A Y-chromosome test is a highly accurate test which will confirm with absolute accuracy whether two or more male individuals share a common, biological paternal ancestor (a father, a grandfather, great grandfather etc or any other male relative). This test is often carried out between male siblings.
Y-DNA testing is more expensive than autosomal, but it's also worth it. You can start with the Y-DNA 37-marker test at Family Tree DNA for $169, and if you want, upgrade to a higher level of testing later without having to submit a new sample.

D'Atanasio et al. (2018) propose that R1b-V88 originated in Europe about 12 000 years ago and crossed to North Africa by about 8000 years ago; it may formerly have been common in southern Europe, where it has since been replaced by waves of other haplogroups, leaving remnant subclades almost exclusively in Sardinia.
R1b-BY250-Northern Germanic.
R-L21 or R1b1a2a1a2c, also known as R-M529 or R-S145, is a Human Y-chromosome DNA haplogroup. It is often linked to the Celtic peoples, and their migrations into Western Europe, during the Bronze and Iron Ages.
The 10 major haplogroups in Caucasian populations were described (H,I,J,K,M,T,U,V,W, and X). The analyses demonstrated that the CR sequences are representative of European and U.S. Caucasian populations. The most common haplogroup, H, was observed for approximately 46 percent of the Caucasians.
Asian Y-chromosome haplogroup VI-68, defined by a mutation at the M82 locus, was present in all 14 populations and accounted for 44.8% of Romani Y chromosomes. Asian mtDNA-haplogroup M was also identified in all Romani populations and accounted for 26.5% of female lineages in the sample.
Maternal lineages
Haplogroup D4 is the modal mtDNA haplogroup among northern East Asians (Japanese, Ryukyuans, Koreans, Manchus, Tuoba Xianbei, Oroqens, Manchurian Evenks, Daurs, Mongols, northern Han Chinese, Tibetans) in general, with a peak frequency among Japanese and Ryukyuans in Japan.
The two oldest R1b samples in the Middle East. They date to 3200 and 2500 BC and they both come from near the border with Europe.
The R1B-V88 Haplogroup is said to have migrated into Central Africa with the Baggara Arab males who interbred with Central African females.
What is the oldest haplogroup?
Definition of haplogroups
The oldest haplogroups are from Africa and with geographic migration and climate adaptations, European, Asian, and Native American haplogroups have evolved. Each haplogroup has related patterns of mtDNA sequences (haplotypes) that represent that population.
The breakdown of Indigenous American haplogroups was also in agreement with the previously reported high proportions of haplogroup A (34–51%), intermediate proportions of B (20–28%), C (16–23%), and low proportions of D (6–8%), which were often not further specified, in the general Mexican population [13,16,18,21,30,31 ...
The Puerto Rican complete mtDNA C1 network shows a large cluster of identical haplotypes found at high frequency in both the ancient and present-day populations (fig. 6). This clade is subhaplogroup C1b2, the most common C1 lineage in both pre and postcontact Puerto Rico.
2-(J1) Haplogroup is very common in Arabs (about 65%) (source is Semino et al.: Origin, Diffusion, and Differentiation of Y-chromosome Haplogroups E and J: Inferences on the Neolithization of Europe and Later Migratory Events in the Mediterranean Area) and (National Geographic Genetic Project).
But most people in Mexico or of Mexican descent these days are not indigenous but rather mestizo, meaning they have a mixture of indigenous, European, and African ancestry.
haplogroups E-M96 (Haiti 69.1% and Jamaica 66%) and R-M306 (Haiti 21.1% and Jamaica 18.9%) represent the predominant Y-lineages in both populations, a higher degree of genetic diversity is observed in Jamaica than in Haiti, with the former population possessing a total of 41 paternal haplogroups, whereas the latter is ...
Like other Western Europeans, among Spaniards and Portuguese the Y-DNA Haplogroup R1b is the most frequent, occurring at over 70% throughout most of Spain. R1b is particularly dominant in the Basque Country and Catalonia, occurring at rate of over 80%.
Physical Characteristics
The Taíno people are medium height, with a bronze skin tone, and long straight black hair. Facial features were high cheekbones and dark brown eyes. The majority of them didn't use clothing except for married women who would wear a “short apron” called nagua.
The Y-DNA haplogroups most commonly found in Jews are J (38%), E (20.4%), R1b (30.7%), G (9.7%), R1a (7.5%), Q (5.2%). Together, Y-DNA haplogroups J and E make up almost 60% of all Jews. In particular, haplogroup J1 is strongly associated with Cohanim/Kohanim Jews.
R1a is the most common haplogroup in Poland, found in almost 57% of the population. The Germanic R1b haplogroup is found in Latvia and Lithuania on a much lower level than in Poland, understandably (Wozniak et al., 2010).
Who are Native Americans most genetically related to?
Genetically, Native Americans are most closely related to East Asians and Ancient North Eurasian. Native American genomes contain genetic signals from Western Eurasia due in part to their descent from a common Siberian population during the Upper Paleolithic period.
